Kyodo News says (here**):
Horse racing: Legendary racehorse Oguri Cap dies
TOKYO, July 3 KYODO

Legendary racehorse Oguri Cap died in Hokkaido on Saturday at age 25, horse racing sources said.
This legendary horse might not be known to the readers from abroad, and he must be forgotten in Japan.
But this article reminds me of the fact that about 1988-1990 he was well-known to not only horse-racing fans but also those who were not interested in horse-racing like me as a child.
And because of this news of his death I learned first that he (born in Mar. 27, 1985) was as old as I (born in Jun. 23, 1984.) (see Wikipedia**.)
(In Japan babies born between Apr. 2 and Apr.1 next year are regarded as same age.)

According to Daily Sports Online*, a Japanese newspaper, he was died of right leg bone fracture.
Farewell, a legacy of Showa era.
